On Wed. Nov 11, 2015 (Veteran's Day) the Troop embarked on our annual Golden Corral Buffet event! The restaurant was so packed with veteran's and their families, that we chose not to wait the 90 minutes to get a table. We went to Sizzler and enjoyed their salad bar!
Everyone is sooooo excited to go....?
Sorry for the fuzzy photos. I need the flash.
Our boys are having fun learning skills, leadership, decision making, ethics and (not to be redundant) having fun!

Rudy's Flat Camp
July 31, 2015
Camp Destination: Rudy's Flat in NSL
Transportation: Feet! We are hiking in!
This camp will get all of the boys who attend up to the rank of 1st Class if they haven't already earned it. This will complete their 5 mile hike.
On the trail up we found this friend in nature:
He wasn't the only one, but he was the biggest. I wonder why the boys didn't wander off too far this weekend! =)

Welcome - Eric Allen! Our New Scoutmaster!
Eric Allen was called as Troop 719's Newest Scoutmaster on July 5, 2015. He will be a great addition to the Troop and will help the boys learn to love the outdoors and be "comfortable--ish" out there.
We are excited to have Eric with us!

2015 Hinckley Scout Ranch Summer Camp
June 22, 2015 found us leaving the chapel at 6:00 am for the Hinckley Scout Ranch (formerly named East Fork of the Bear Scout Reservation) near the Bear River Lodger on the Mirror Lake Highway about 30 minutes south of Evanston.
The boys had loaded their trailer Saturday morning so we were off!
Just before the I-80 interchange on I-84 the trailer door opened letting Stan's diabetic supplies spray across the freeway. We pulled over and got that cleaned up and his parent's met us and brought up new supplies.
Monday: We checked in - did swim checks (All boys passed swim check; only 1 boy didn't make swimmer); We set up camp and started Environmental Science. Our meals were at the Camp Kitchen so we ate well and had fun competing against the other troops for the right to get in line first.
Tuesday: We finished Environmental Science (except for our camp observations) and those who were already 1st Class Scouts went to the rifle range and all the others went to 1st Class.
Wednesday: We all went to Woodcarving and Archery and learned how to play MOUNTAIN CRICKET!! This game was the highlight of the camp. We missed the Scout Falls hike (Sorry, Stan!) but had fun with the Father Son Mt.Cricket tourney.
Thursday: Those who had First Aid went to Leatherwork and Metalwork, and the rest earned First Aid. After lunch Rifle Shooting occured again and those who didn't went to leatherwork, metalwork and basketry. Basketry was much "funner" than the boys expected.
Friday: The whole troop almost earned fishing. We need to catch, clean and cook a fish. After lunch we went to the camp wide games, but decided Mt.Cricket was way more fun. That evening several boys played at the waterfront during free time.
Friday night at the closing campfire the boys were given the Camp Spirit Staff along with the Honor Troop 3-Bar award! These boys are terrific! Both patrols did a skit at the campfire and did an excellent job. Stags did the "Invisible Bench" skit and the Hawks did the "Is It Time Yet?" skit.
Saturday: We got up and packed our gear, took down the tents and went home! It was so fun!
We will post more details and photos.

Farmington Bay District Camporee @ Rockport Dam!
"Not-so"Chubby Howard 9 & 10 (i believe is the correct taxonomy) made their appearance on Saturday morning of the Farmington Bay District camporee making the second district event in a row where field mice entertained the boys. Well, to be correct they were Dam Church Mice. We stayed under the Rockport Dam and enjoyed the Dam environment and scenery. The Dam Field we stayed is was nice but all could have done without the rain and wind.
We arrived Friday night amid hailstones and much rain, and wind. Tents were set up and prepared for later. Canopies were erected and dinner was done Backpacking style. The boys enjoyed the Mountain House meals and passed off a Cooking merit badge requirement.
Newly Sustained (4/4/2015) General Young Men's President Steven W. Owen and his wife, Jane Owen came to speak to us. He talked about his memories of scouting and camping with his father. He talked about Priesthood keys and how Moroni told Joseph to consult his father regarding their "Interviews" of the previous night. He taught us how keys are important to each of the young men and that they need to follow the order of the gospel.
It was interesting to note that about 30 minutes before and after President Owen spoke the weather was calm and very peaceful. It was a beautiful night while we were listening to one of the Lord's newly Annointed servants.
Just after dark the wind's picked up and the rains fell. We quickly retired and spent another night in a sleeping bag (although I don't think many slept). All will need to dry their bags and tents for sure when we get home!
We are glad the Scorpion (11-Year Olds) Patrol joined us! Jacob won 1st AND 2nd place in the Tomahawk throw! Many of the boys enjoyed the bb gun shoot and several enjoyed the climbing wall and rope bridge experiences.
We finished the camp by cleaning up a section of the reservoir so the Dam could be Clean. Service hours are needed for advancements!!
Enjoy pictures:
Now I need to see if I can add the video of Jacob posting his 2nd place performance in the 'hawk!
